The End - OBT and Panel discussion

"Carpe diem" Here comes the final session of this blog. This chapter of my blog is the most favorite one. This has two unusual sessions of the course that I have ever attended till now. This first one I am going to talk about is OBT (Outbound training). This was my favorite session of this course. I love to be engaged in physical activities almost all the time. Classroom lectures always bore me to death. In this course, I was indulged in various team activities. We started with a jog (a warm up). And we came to the gaming spot where all the games were wonderful and engaging. My favorite was the Tarzan. We have to jump from an elevation using a rope that was tied to a branch of the tree. First, I thought we have to climb using that rope. By the time when we are done with the Caterpillar game, I ran to the Tarzan spot and started climbing the rope. Everyone in my team and the OBT coordinators were laughing but they still cheered me up. I climbed half way through and was un...

Self-actualization

"What a man can be, he must be. This need we call self-actualization." A self actualized person is the one who knows about himself in a way so that he can maximize his output. Self actualization occurs when you maximize your potential, doing the best that you are capable of doing. Again you be a self actualized person only if you know what is good for you and what you are good at. Everything we saw in the previous classes actually lead to this point only, to make us self actualized person. In this session we were given a few questions and we were asked to answer them. The questions were designed in a way to see if we are self actualized or not. Maslow is the one who is kind of an expert in this. He coined the characteristics of self actualized people and we use that as base to build on the theory till now. Self actualization is considered to be that stage of life where you have no needs or desires left to satisfy and now you want to know about your ful...

Motivation

"Don't let yesterday take up too much of today." Capitalizing on understanding why people do what they do and fostering a motivated workforce means better organisational performance. Motivated employees improve an organisation’s productivity and its competitive advantage. They are more highly engaged, can better handle the unease that comes with uncertainty, generally make for better problem solvers, and are more innovative, creative, and customer focused. Organisations with highly motivated workforce, in addition to being more profitable, report having higher levels of customer satisfaction and employee retention. There are essentially three types of motivations humans may entertain in their endeavors. Materialistic motivation which is the most common and promoted form in contemporary society whereby one works for the sake of attaining material rewards which are of little absolute value and fail to fulfill the existential quest for purpose in this transient life. Al...

Learning mindset

"Life is a journey, not a destination. So is learning..." To get a learning mindset we must be very agile meaning that we must be very quick, fast and adaptive to change. In the modern world were new inventions are made almost everyday and the old technology being replaced by the new one we must be really adaptive and ready to learn to survive. We were also asked to assess what kind of learners we are, that is if we are quick learners or not. Fear can be a good motivator in making us learn. We also talked about developing meta-cognition which means to develop the understanding and understanding of one's thought process. We also discussed the three loops single, double and triple. Mindsets are people's beliefs about learning and school. Students with learning mindsets are more motivated to take on challenging work, persist in the face of setbacks, and achieve at higher levels. I believe that the following learning mindsets play a role in students’ persistence an...

Creativity

"Creativity is intelligence having fun" Mr. Siva came to talk about creativity. He has helped many people achieve their entrepreneurial goal by igniting the creative spark in them. He discussed about how to formulate the business model in a creative way. He introduced the concept of design thinking. We came to know about the many ways in which we can use creative thinking to better the situation of an organisation. He talked about the six thinking hats white, yellow, black, red, green and blue. White Hat - for information known or needed. "The facts, just the facts." Yellow Hat   - symbolizes brightness and optimism. Under this hat you explore the positives and probe for value and benefit. Black Hat - is judgment - why something may not work. Spot the difficulties and dangers; where things might go wrong. Probably the most powerful and useful of the Hats but a problem if overused. Red Hat - signifies feelings, hunches and intuition. When using this hat you ...
