Motivation

"Don't let yesterday take up too much of today."

Capitalizing on understanding why people do what they do and fostering a motivated workforce means better organisational performance. Motivated employees improve an organisation’s productivity and its competitive advantage. They are more highly engaged, can better handle the unease that comes with uncertainty, generally make for better problem solvers, and are more innovative, creative, and customer focused. Organisations with highly motivated workforce, in addition to being more profitable, report having higher levels of customer satisfaction and employee retention.

There are essentially three types of motivations humans may entertain in their endeavors. Materialistic motivation which is the most common and promoted form in contemporary society whereby one works for the sake of attaining material rewards which are of little absolute value and fail to fulfill the existential quest for purpose in this transient life.
Altruistic motivation aims to benefit others while being connected to the material world and subjected to emotions and material desires. It is difficult to maintain because one does not receive any proportional reward for their efforts (their efforts usually amount to a fraction of the desired aim).

Spiritual motivation allows one to free themselves from human emotions and material attachments and maintain altruistic efforts by receiving rewards in the form of spirituality and increasing metaphysical awareness. Some may deprive themselves of this super motivation by disregarding the presence of a metaphysical reality which the human soul has a natural inclination towards.
There may be many forms of motivation but in the end the motivation you get from within is what helps you go a long way. That can be achieved if the work you do is something you like or if the work is challenging.

Motivation is quite subjective. It depends on every individual. Everyone finds motivation in different forms. Some find motivation the rigor of the ocean and some find it in the quiet of the dawn. Each individual is very different, hence we cannot form a generalized definition of motivation. It is not an one size fits all.
