Johari window

"How much you and the people around you know about you?"

This session talks about Johari window, being judged and showing the real you. Johari window is an activity to find the blind spot in our character. The window has two rows known to others and unknown to others. Then there are two columns known to self and unknown to self.

We have to fill characteristics that fall under the intersection of these rows and columns. The things that come in the first box are the characters that are open and the ones in the second box are the ones that hidden to others. The characters in the third box are the blind spots, these are the ones that we have to improve on. The fourth box is an interesting one, these characters are unknown to both others and us. This is something we have to discover on our own, to do this we must try new things.

We are constantly being judged by others whether we like it or not. No one likes being judged but it is a harsh reality that we are being judged in each and every moment. Our lives are being looked at by a microscope. This may seem scary but it is the truth.

We may hide the real us from others for several reasons. I believe that the main reason is the fear of losing people closest to you. People tend to behave differently to people they like and lie to them about the feelings because they care about them too much and fear that showing their real face may drift them apart.

As far as judging people goes, I agree that we must not judge people but we do that day in day out, even I do that unconsciously. When we see someone not giving money to beggars we judge them but the truth may be is that the person may not have any cash (we have all been there). So what can be done about this? Maybe we can not stop it, but we can be cautious enough to not act on that instinct alone.

As far as Johari window is concerned, the main ingredient to make the dish successful is asking the right questions to the right person. If you get that right then the dish will be decent at least.
