"A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world."
Ethics has been a grey area in modern times. The problem with ethics is that it keeps evolving with time. In class we talked about the marshmallow experiment where a kid is asked to not eat the marshmallow until the instructor comes back but only a few kids could hold back their desire and they were rewarded with an extra marshmallow at the end.
Also, Mam asked us to write a quiz despite there being no quiz in the course outline and she acted as if she was called by the HOD for something important and to no one’s surprise people cheated and this was how the ethics class started.
This experiment shows the ethics that the kids showed. This can be related to value trumping as the kids valued the marshmallow more than ethics. This is an important concept as this determines what we value more and what we value less.
Prioritization is again something that deļ¬nes the things we do as we do things that we prioritize. People can prioritize based on many things such as friendship, relationship, work and many more.
In today's corporate world where everything has become a rat race ethics has become a fragile thing. Ethics is a very thin line if you are on one Side you are ethical and if you fall on the other side you are unethical, but the challenge is that the line seems to be moving all the time depending on the time and the stature of the person crossing it. Ethicality of the person is decided not only by the deeds he does but also by the position he is in the society.
I think ethics is something you have to be taught from the very beginning or there has to be a life changing event that occurred that changes your perspective of ethics.
Coming to prioritization we generally tend to look to things that we like in order to decide what to do. We have a hierarchy of things that take priority. This is done cautiously or incautiously by us every time we make a decision.
